Valentines Day: Country Style
I was at work the other day when I met this good-looking construction worker. We talked a little bit and seemed to really hit it off. When quittin time rolled around, he met me at my truck (well car) and asked me out for Valentines Day. I was so nervous inside, but I managed to accept. He asked me to pick him up (because his truck broke down last week) at 7 o'clock, then gave me his address and phone number so that I could contact him.
Valentines day (today) finally rolled around and I started getting ready at 4 o'clock! Two hours later, I had all my makeup and hair done... outfit on and I was ready to go. Then I realized that I had no idea where his address went!!! I frantically searched my pockets of all my jeans to find that dang piece of paper! I found five bucks.. but thats about all. So I rand up to my computer and entered his phone number into the canada 411 page. There I found his address and I was good to go! Hopped in my car and turned the key, only to realize that my car wouldnt start. (its a good think i can fix cars!) I popped the hood and fiddled and tinkered with some parts, then tried the key again. It started!
I headed down the road to my destination. 20 minutes later, I found myself on a dirt road off in the boonies! I had no idea where the heck I was, but I kept following the directions that I wrote down off MapQuest. It was raining pretty hard, and the dirt road got a little muddy. And wouldnt'ya know, I got my car stuck in the mud. "Of all the things that could possibly happen on valentines day," I thought to myself. I pulled out a few peices of ply wood and some gravel (because I keep those in my trunk just in case) and I tried my hardest get some traction. A Half hour later, I gave up and tried to call someone because not only was my car stuck, the key wouldnt turn anymore. I had to walk 15 minutes down the road to get reception on my cell phone.. and, just my luck, I dropped the phone in the mud... it was soaked and most definately not going to work anymore!
I felt like giving up - but then I though about how much fun I could still have with my construction guy, even though my clothes were covered in mud and my hair was soaked and flat. I left my car where it was and walked... and walked.. and walked some more (finally leaving my high heel shoes on the side of the road). Then I came across a rough-looking driveway! I was estatic!!! I ran down the driveway (dodging the pot holes) and found an old, well used cottege just sitting there. I opened the screen door and knocked on the door. Anxiously waiting for some old redneck with no teeth to answer. To my dismay, there was no answer. I saw a light on inside, and so I opened the door and went in thinking, "Maybe there is a phone I can use to call someone?" There was... but it didnt work.
That was the last straw. I was wet, muddy, lost and definately alone! I found some old plaid shirts in the closet of one of the rooms and put them on. I figured that it was better to be dry and alone, than sitting there all night in my wet clothes. Then I proceeded to help myself to a beer from the refridgerator.
It was approximately 9:30 and I couldnt wait for Valentines day to be over! THEN! I heard the screen door creak... someone was home! "Oh no!" I said as I tried to prevent getting found. I peeked around the corner, only to find out that it was the good-looking construction guy! I was so embarrassed that I was in his house, wearing his clothes and drinking his beer... when I should have been there 3 hours earlier all prettied up for our date! He found me in the living room but didnt seem too suprised to see me! I thought for sure that it was over between us because I stood him up and I defineatly did not know where to begin about why I was the way I was. He looked at me and smiled, then I smiled back (because girls just do that when we get smiled at!) and the rest is history...
I hope you realize that that was not how my Valentines Day acutally was! I really just sat at home all day and read... then went to Youth Alpha. My car still runs.. and I am still single. But its alright beacuse there is only 2 hours left of this silly day! Hope you enjoyed your day!
Kara
